Laos
Laos Context
Enchanting beauty around every corner, Laos was one of the more naturally beautiful countries I've visited. It's also the one country where most of the Americans I've spoken to knew least about. And what a shame, considering our history here, and the impact our government has had on the land and its people.
Even though I suspect more than a few of my fellow citizens would struggle to find the country on a world map, or its role in my country's venturing into this part of the world under President Eisenhower in the 1950's, Laos is a country worth learning about and getting to know a little bit better.
Ben and I spent 5 days in Luang Prabang, not nearly enough, and yet more than we typically spend in most places. Luang Prabang is located high in the Laotian mountains along the banks of the mighty Mekong River, and is home to the former royal kingdom. Its impressive history can be seen along the streets of this charming town, and you'll wish you had allotted more time to stay than you originally did.
We didn't get to do everything we had on our agenda, but that's okay. My goal is to come back sometime, spend more than just a few days, and get a better understanding of this charming country.
